A balance mass set, also known as a physical mass set, is a group of separate masses used to calibrate and balance weighing instruments such as laboratory balances and scales. A twin beam balance is a type of mechanical weighing equipment that is often used in laboratories and educational settings to accurately estimate the mass of an object. It is made up of two parallel beams that are connected by a central pivot point and have weighing pans on both ends. During the weighing procedure, the centre pivot allows the beams to move freely while maintaining balance. Due to their precision, ease of use, and ability to directly compare unknown masses to established standards, double beam balances are dependable and commonly used weighing devices. They are especially useful in educational contexts for teaching weighing and measurement principles.
